Re:Coded

Introduction

Taught product design and design thinking to conflict-affected youth in Istanbul, Turkey and remotely in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan through interactive workshops and exercises to build their skills in human-centered design. I continue to lead remote sessions to further their understanding of UX and instill design thinking in their approach to coding.

Re:Coded is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bring free coding and design programs to conflict affected youth to enable them to find meaningful work in tech. I was invited to work on-site with dozens of web development students based in Istanbul, Turkey over their winter semester as the designer in residence. My residency was focused around teaching budding developers about product design and design thinking. I currently continue sessions with students in both the programming and UX tracks in Istanbul, Turkey and Erbil, Iraq remotely.

Workshops sessions included design sprint simulations across several days where students were challenged to use design thinking to solve product-centric problems in hypothetical settings. Activities were comprised of sessions designed by me, or from workshop resources from IDEO.
